People often think of ‘core’ work in yoga as the hardening of the abdomen, whereas in fact it is more to do with the ability to move from your core. In this session Simon will teach you how to enter a posture using your own internal energy. The methods taught can be the foundations of a sound traditional yoga practice of your own design. They are also the foundation of real internal martial arts as well as modern exercise physiology and can give you core strength with total freedom in your body.
Core Resistance Training: Secrets of What to do with Your Physical Body During Postures. Resistance training has been shown to be one of the most important types of exercise for enhancing health and longevity. However, when practiced incorrectly, as is often the case, it can cause physical damage or physiological stress. In this session Simon will show you how to get the benefits of resistance training in static postures (asanas) and dynamic exercises (vinyasas) with no risk of injury. These are principles you are incorporate into your practice of any yoga style. Spinal breathing: Secrets of Moving Energy with Breathing. Most people know that breathing is important in yoga, but many people have developed faulty breathing habits that tend to block the movements of the spine and inhibit internal organ function. Trunk muscles and spinal movements can direct your breath, but once you understand how to move actively from your core, it is possible for your conscious breathing to control your yoga. In this session Simon will teach you how to move your trunk so as to control your breath, and then show you how to progress to moving your breath so as to control your spine and physiology. This information begins to give you the link between body and mind in your own practice. Moving Energy in Stillness: Secrets of How to Move your Consciousness During a Posture. It is relatively easy to generate and move energy in your body if you are moving but most people have difficulty in generating and/or moving energy while the body is still. In this session Simon while help you explore the yogic science of mudra in which you can both generate energy and circulate it while in static postures. The techniques shown here can give tremendous benefits to your muscles, joints and bones as well as your internal organs during any physical or meditative practice. Meditation in Movement to Silence. In this session all four principles elucidated over the previous four sessions and the techniques used to achieve will be brought together in a complete practice. This practice can be like an extended meditation that begins with smooth movements, continues with postures held for short periods and then culminates in a longer seated and still meditation. You will learn how to develop flexibility without painful stretching, increase strength without strain or stress, and improve circulation without needed to make your heart race. Although the group will practice together the way each individual practices is encouraged to be individual and unique to each practitioner in that moment. This is the first step to developing your own freestyle sequences that evolve as your body dictates from one moment to the next. back to schedule >> |
