STEFAN DUERST. SCULPTOR.
I grew up in Germany where I completed my apprenticeship with distinction as a metal designer and blacksmith in 1995. I achieved the same result at the master school for metalwork in the year 2000. In between I worked as a journeyman under Herbert Elflein in Murnau, probably the only metal designer in Bavaria who had a 300-kilogram Beche hammer in his shop. Working with Herbert Elflein was a stroke of luck for me. Herbert was able to realize just about anything he imagined in metal. I found this infectious. The time I spent in Murnau helped me discover and further develop my penchant for sculpture.
I found another defining influence on my career path in Munich sculptor Julia Mangold. I worked regularly under her as an intern. The works of this academic artist are defined by absolute minimalism. I learned from her how much you can work on a piece and when you have to stop in order to avoid overloading it. I still observe this today. No matter how complex a piece may be, the emphasis is always on clear lines and harmonious proportions.
I took the leap across the Atlantic to realize my childhood dream of coming to Canada in 2002 and landed in Kingston where I opened a studio and shop. Nine years later I moved to Godfrey where I found my piece of wilderness inspiration on 60 acres of Canadian Shield.
My collaborations include work with Governor General’s Visual Arts Award winner, Kevin Lockau and I am excited about an upcoming adventure with internationally infamous graffiti artist, Loomit. The “Godfather of Graffiti” will be working with me at my studio this fall. He has already “sprayed” two of my ribbon sculptures at his studio in Germany.
My sculptures have been commissioned for the Canadian embassies in England and Morocco as well as Bridgepoint Health Centre in Toronto, Downton Kingston and Anchor Concrete in Kingston. Exhibitions of my work are currently displayed at La Pai Gallery in Ottawa, Studio 22 in Kingston and my own gallery at Godfrey Sculpture Park. The sculpture park officially opened on May 22, 2016 on my property in Godfrey, Ontario.

The Move Dance Collective in 2003. An award-winning musician, the teacher
of 5Rhythms Toronto's Tuesday Waves and Saturday Deep Waves classes, and a
regular DJ at Toronto's conscious dance hubs, The Move and Ecstatic Dance
Thursdays, Layah says, "the musical offerings I make are those that rock
my own heart, move my soul, and make me sweat, be it a funky groove, a
soulful melody, a meditative soundscape, or a big thumping tribal beat."
MARK REiNHART. INSTALLATION ARTIST.
Mark Reinhart is a mover, and a thinker. His curatorial work involves giving space and stage to artists and communities who may otherwise rest in the cracks of the social ground from which we can all rise. In his personal art practice, he looks for, and looks to create, colour and rhythm where they perhaps are not expected.
He can commonly be found climbing trees, painting with duct tape, and creating intersections, with all the wonderfully creative and progressive thinkers with whom he has the pleasure of quietly colliding.
"Mark Reinhart's magnanimous creative genius is matched only by his rad sense of humour and the radiance of his toothless smile. In a previous life he was definitely a unicorn." –Liz Huntly
